|Who is Vulnerable?|
|Vulnerability Description||Microsoft Works is home productivity software suite with fewer features than the Microsoft Office suite. The Microsoft Works Converter allows the user to open, edit, and save files in the Microsoft Works file format. CVE-2007-0216: The vulnerability is due to an error in the Microsoft Works Converter fails to properly validate section length headers. CVE-2008-0108: The vulnerability is due to an error in the Microsoft Works Converter fails to properly validate various field lengths information. A remote attacker could trigger these flaws by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Microsoft Works file. Successful exploitation of this issue may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.|
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed MS Works files over HTTP.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized traffic without blocking it.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
