Vulnerability Description | Buffer overflow in a certain DCOM interface for RPC in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, and Server 2003 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a malformed message, as exploited by the Blaster, MSblast, LovSAN, Nachi, and Welchia worms. |
This protection blocks DCE-RPC requests for Opnums 4 or 0 that contain: 0x5c005c00 and do not contain 0x5c or 0x00000000, such that the distance between the first and last is bigger than 32 bytes. It also blocks DCE-RPC requests for Opnums 4 or 0 that contain: 0x5c005c00 and 0x43002400 at a distance of at least 58, and contain 0x0000 at a distance bigger than 35 bytes.
