Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Heap-based buffer overflow in the Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) interface in the RPCSS Service allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This is done via a malformed DCERPC DCOM object activation request packet with modified length fields.

Protection Overview

If this protection is enabled, DCE-RPC requests for Opnums 4 or 0 that contain: 0xd8d8d8d8d8d8d8d8 are blocked.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows DCOM RPC Interface Buffer Overflow (MS03-026) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  DCOM DCE-RPC Enforcement Violation.
Attack Information:  phpFileManager cmd Parameter Command Execution
