Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Access Support software package for IBM and Lenovo systems includes several ActiveX controls. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page. Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded. The vulnerabilities are due to multiple errors in the "AcpController.dll" control. To trigger these errors, an attacker may create a malicious web page that will exploit these vulnerabilities. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the vulnerable ActiveX Control.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM and Lenovo Access Support acpRunner ActiveX Security Bypass protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
