Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Cisco Unified Communications Manager provides voice, video, mobility, and presence services. The Cisco Certificate Trust List (CTL) Provider service handles authentication and certificate requests for the Cisco Unified Communications Manager. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Certificate Trust List (CTL) Provider service of Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The vulnerability is due to an error in the Certificate Trust List (CTL) Provider service that fails to properly process crafted client requests. A remote attacker can trigger this issue by sending a crafted message to a vulnerable server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may create a denial of service condition and allow execution of arbitrary code on the affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed messages sent to the CTL service.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Cisco Unified Communications Manager CTL Provider Heap Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
