Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Project is a project management software program designed to assist project managers to stay informed, keep project teams aligned, increase productivity and control project work, schedules, and finances.A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in the way Microsoft Project handles Project files. The vulnerability is due to a memory handling error in Microsoft Project that fails to properly validate malformed Project files. An attacker can exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system via a specially crafted Project file.Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Microsoft Project files over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
