Vulnerability Description | A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way Microsoft GDI handles the filename parameter in EMF files. The Microsoft Windows graphics device interface (GDI) enables applications to use graphics and formatted text on the video display and on the printer. EMF is a image format used in many Windows programs including Internet Explorer and Outlook. The vulnerability is due to a stack overflow error when Microsoft GDI fails to properly process a malformed file name parameter in an EMF image files. By convincing a user to open a specially crafted image file, a remote attacker could cause a denial of service condition or execute arbitrary code on an affected system. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed EMF files over HTTP.
