Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Active Directory is an implementation of LDAP directory services by Microsoft. Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is Internet standard protocol designed for querying and modifying directory services. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows Active Directory. The flaw is due to insufficient validation of LDAP requests by the LDAP service. A Remote attacker can exploit this issue via a specially crafted LDAP request sent to a vulnerable Active Directory server. Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to create a denial of service condition on the affected server.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed LDAP requests sent to the Active Directory server.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Active Directory LDAP Search Request Buffer Overflow (MS08-060) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
