Vulnerability Description | Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open file format created by Adobe Systems. It is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a device and resolution independent fixed-layout document format. A remote code execution vulnerabilities have been reported in Adobe Acrobat when handling PDF files that contain embedded JavaScript. A remote attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code on an affected system via a specially crafted PDF file. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. There are cases in which certain traffic, although not intended for malicious use, is very unsafe, since it may transfer shellcode which is undetectable by IPS. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of PDF files that contain embedded JavaScript over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
