Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Norton Internet Security 2004 is an all-in-one security solution for the desktop. One of the main features of Norton Internet Security 2004 is the ability to integrate with a users mail client and install spam filters on incoming mail. This feature of Norton Internet Security 2004 is called AntiSpam. Norton Internet Security 2004 is vulnerable to a buffer overflow attack. If an attacker is able to entice a victim to access a malicious web page or e-mail, it is possible for the attacker to run arbitrary code in the context of LOCAL_SYSTEM. Due to a bounds check failure of the parameter within a vulnerable function, if the malicious code is executed (through a browser or e-mail client), a buffer is overrun and will cause the underlying browser or e-mail client to fail. If properly crafted, it is possible for the remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the remote client, running in the LOCAL_SYSTEM context.
