Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Arkeia Backup is a commercial network backup software that runs on a variety of platforms including AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX, Linux, MacOS, NetWare, OpenBSD, Solaris, Tru64 Unix, and Windows. There exists an unchecked buffer vulnerability in the Arkeia Network Backup agent module. A crafted message can overrun a stack buffer in the vulnerable component and allow arbitrary code execution. In a simple attack case aimed at creating a denial of service condition, the target's backup client listen port is closed. A legitimate backup server will no longer be able to connect to the target and perform backup tasks on it until the service is manually restarted. In a more sophisticated attack scenario, where the attacker is successful in injecting and executing supplied code, the behavior of the system is dependent on the nature of the malicious code. The injected code is executed with root or system privileges. |
