Vulnerability Description | Asterisk is an open source software implementation of a telephone private branch exchange. Like any PBX, it allows a number of attached telephones to make calls to one another, and to connect to other telephone services including the public switched telephone network. Asterisk supports a wide range of Voice over IP protocols, including SIP, MGCP, and H.323. There exists a Null-dereference vulnerability in the way Digium Asterisk handles SIP response messages. The vulnerability is due to errors occurred while handling invalid SIP Response Status-Code in SIP Channel Driver component. Remote authenticated attackers can exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted SIP response messages to the target server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability results in the Denial of Service condition on the target server. Upon a successful attack, the vulnerable Asterisk server will terminate and exit, creating a denial of service condition. The service needs to be restarted manually to restore the functionality. |
