Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Novell GroupWise is an enterprise collaboration system that provides secure e-mail, calendaring, scheduling, and instant messaging. GroupWise also includes task management, contact management, document management, and other productivity tools. GroupWise can be used on the users' desktop and can be deployed on multiple platforms such as Linux, Windows, or Macintosh. There exists a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in Novell GroupWise WebAccess. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error when processing crafted HTTP requests. A remote unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending overly long authentication string to the service. Successful exploitation would allow for arbitrary code injection and execution with the privileges of the server process, usually System/root. In an attack case where code injection is not successful the affected application will terminate abnormally. Restoration of the functionality, in such a case, would require manual restart of the affected system. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the service process, which is System. |
