Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Java System Web Proxy Server (formerly Sun ONE Web Proxy Server) is a software product that collects data from the network, determines where that data should go, and distributes it accordingly. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Java System Web Proxy sockd daemon. The vulnerability is due to lack of boundary checking on user provided parameters when parsing the received message during the protocol negotiation. A remote unauthenticated attacker may leverage this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted connection request. Successful exploitation allows injection and execution of arbitrary code with System/root privileges. In a simple attack case, the affected service process will terminate abnormally when the malicious message is processed. Note the watchdog process will restart the service automatically. In a sophisticated attack scenario, where the malicious user is successful in injecting and executing supplied code, the behaviour of the system is dependent on the nature of the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of the System/root level privileges. |
