Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description QuickTime is a media player application developed by Apple. It is capable of playing back numerous multimedia file formats from local file system or network servers. One of the media formats supported by Apple QuickTime is SMIL. An integer overflow vulnerability exists in Apple QuickTime. The vulnerability is due to the way QuickTime parses specially crafted SMIL documents. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to open a specially crafted SMIL file or access a malicious web page, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, all instances of the vulnerable QuickTime application will terminate. In a more sophisticated attack scenario where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user.
