ClamAV includes a milter (mail filter) for the mail transfer agents (MTA) such as Sendmail. A milter is a mail filter extension used for MTAs that allows third-party programs to access mail message when it is being processed in order to filter meta-information and content. A shell command injection vulnerability exists in ClamAV AntiVirus product. The vulnerability can be triggered when the application processes malicious SMTP commands. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by delivering a crafted request to the target host, resulting in command injection and execution with privileges of the affected ClamAV application. A successful exploitation of the vulnerability allows an attacker to execute the shell commands with the privileges of the affected ClamAV application.
