Vulnerability Description | Red Hat Directory Server is an LDAP-based server that centralizes application settings, user profiles, group data, policies, and access control information into an operating system-independent, network-based registry. Fedora Directory Server is a free version of Red Hat Directory Server. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Red Hat Directory Server. The flaw is due to an improper data validation in the Administrator Web Interface component. A remote attacker can trigger this vulnerability by sending crafted HTTP request to the affected service, potentially inject and execute arbitrary code with root level privileges. In a sophisticated attack case where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the affected service, which is normally the root. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected CGI application will terminate abnormally. |
