Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Trend Micro OfficeScan is a centralized virus and security scan management system. It is meant to consolidate the coordination of security scan actions and the management of Trend Micro virus scanner products installed on nodes of an enterprise network. The product is a central command center for the management of infections or vulnerabilities, as well as information regarding virus events or unusual activity. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Trend Micro's OfficeScan. The flaw is due to a boundary error when handling HTTP requests. An unauthenticated remote attacker can leverage this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code with System level privileges on the target system. In case of a sophisticated attack, where code injection and execution is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the affected service, normally System. In case of an attack where code execution is not achieved, the CGI process initiated for the session will be terminated abnormally. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerabilityNote that in order for this defense to protect your Trend Micro OfficeScan Server, you will need to configure port 8080 (which is also the HTTP proxy port) to work with the HTTP protocol. You need to do the following:1. In the Services tree, click on TCP > HTTP_and_HTTPS_proxy. The TCP Service Properties window opens.2. Click on Advanced. Select the Protocol Type: HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
