Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Windows HTTP Services (WinHTTP) provides developers with an HTTP client application programming interface (API) to send requests through the HTTP protocol to other HTTP servers. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way Microsoft Windows HTTP Services handles NTLM credentials. The vulnerability is due to an error in Windows HTTP Services that fail to ensure that a user's credentials are not reflected back and used against the user. An attacker who successfully executed a reflection attack could take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block reflection attacks.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows HTTP Services Credential Reflection Code Execution (MS09-013) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Windows SMB Protection Violation.
