Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) provides remote display and input capabilities over network connections for Microsoft Windows-based applications running on a server. The Remote Desktop Web Connection ActiveX control allows accessing a computer, via the Internet, from another computer using Internet Explorer. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Terminal Services Client ActiveX control. The vulnerability is due to an error in the ActiveX control methods that fail to perform sufficient parameter validation. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a malicious Web page. Successful exploitation of this issue could allow remote code execution on the affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client Connection ActiveX Heap Overflow (MS09-044) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
