Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a graphical desktop sharing technology that uses the Remote Frame Buffer (RFB) protocol to remotely control another computer. The controller computer (client or viewer) sends keyboard and mouse events to the controlled computer (server); the controlled computer sends graphical screen updates to the controller machine. RFB is usually carried over TCP port 5900. There exist a buffer overflow vulnerability in multiple Virtual Network Computing (VNC) based applications. The flaw is due to improper validation of length value in network message. A remote attacker might trigger this vulnerability by persuading the target user to connect to a malicious VNC server. In an attack case where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the logged in user. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the affected application will terminate abnormally. |
