Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Microsoft Color Management Module is a Microsoft Windows system component that provides consistent colour reproduction across various imaging devices such as monitors, scanners, printers and other devices. The colour management functionality is based on the International Color Consortium (ICC) profiles. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Color Management Module of Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability is triggered by processing image files with crafted embedded ICC profiles. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by persuading a target user to open a specially crafted image file. A successful attack can allow arbitrary code to be executed with privileges of the currently logged in user. In case of an attack aimed at creating a denial of service condition, the affected application that uses the Color Management Module will terminate. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the system is dependent on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of the logged in user. |
