Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Kerberos is a protocol suite which allows for the negotiation of authenticated, and optionally encrypted, communication between two points on a network. MIT Kerberos V5 is an implementation of this protocol suite. There exists a double free vulnerability in the authentication function of the MIT Kerberos V5 implementation. An unauthenticated remote attacker can leverage this vulnerability to cause a denial of service or to execute arbitrary code. Exploitation of this vulnerability on a Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) host can result in the compromise of an entire Kerberos realm. In case of an attack, aimed at creating a denial of service condition, the affected service will terminate. In the case of a slave Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC), the KDC functionality may be unavailable until the server is restarted manually. In case of a more sophisticated attack, where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the system is dependent on the nature the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of the service process, which may be system or root level. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to compromise the entire Kerberos realm. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
