Vulnerability Description | The Firefox web browser is an application designed for tasks related to browsing the web, such as displaying HTML encoded pages, downloading files, and so on. The web browser is capable of rendering images of numerous types. Some of the types Firefox is able to render are Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG), Graphic Image File (GIF), Bitmap (BMP) and X Bit Map (XBM). A vulnerability exists in the Mozilla Firefox browser's image rendering code. The flaw is specific to an improper processing of the XBM image file format. This vulnerability allows an attacker to craft a malicious image that results in a heap buffer overflow condition which may lead to process flow diversion. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the affected browser application may terminate immediately when the malicious web page is opened. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target system is dependent on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component will execute in the security context of the currently logged in user. |
