Vulnerability Description | The Macromedia Flash Player can process and render multimedia content authored in the Shockwave Flash (SWF) format. Macromedia Flash Player includes a browser plug-ins that allows Flash content to be displayed within web pages. There are several versions of the plugin provided by Macromedia for most popular web browsers. The plugin for Microsoft Internet Explorer is implemented as an ActiveX control with the file name flash.ocx. A vulnerability exists in the way that Macromedia Flash Player processes SWF files. The vulnerable product does not properly validate the user supplied data. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the target by enticing the targeted user to open a crafted SWF file. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code injected would run within the security context of the logged in user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the vulnerable application may terminate as a result of the attack attempt. |
