Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is a web browser capable of displaying HTML encoded pages, downloading files, etc. This application has a built in JavaScript interpreter. It is also capable of using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). A Cross-Domain vulnerability exists in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The flaw is caused by an improper parsing of Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) files. This vulnerability may be exploited by a malicious user to disclose HTML and script content across different domains. Exploitation attempts of this vulnerability will generally aim to result in the disclosure of sensitive information. In these cases the target host will not exhibit any unusual behavior. The user may be completely oblivious to the fact that an attack has transpired. An unsuccessful attack may result in error messages being generated by the vulnerable application.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer CSS Import Cross-Domain Restriction Bypass (MS06-021) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
