Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Internet Explorer is a popular web browser bundled with the Microsoft Windows operating system. The browser is capable of communicating with HTTP and HTTPS compliant servers. The browser also has the capability to launch locally-installed libraries, or ActiveX controls, embedded in web pages. There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Install Engine component of Microsoft Internet Explorer. The flaw exists because of a lack of parameter checking of a certain function exposed by the vulnerable component. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by injecting arbitrary code into the affected process which will be executed with the privileges of the currently logged-in user. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the system is dependent on the nature the injected code. Any code injected into the vulnerable component would execute in the security context of the current user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, the Internet Explorer process will likely terminate. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
