Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Apple QuickTime is a popular multi-media display application. The QuickTime suite includes the QuickTime Player, which is capable of displaying movies, images and audio, as well as the Picture Viewer. Apple Picture Viewer is a light-weight application capable of displaying images. The applications share a common set of libraries that are used to parse and display the images. There exists a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in various Apple QuickTime products. The flaw is caused by a boundary error within the component responsible for processing BMP images. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code in the security context of the currently logged in user. In case of a an attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intended purpose of the injected code. Any code executed would be within the security context of the currently logged on user. In case of a an attack where code injection is unsuccessful, the vulnerable application may terminate unexpectedly upon processing the image as a result of the attack attempt. |
