Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Adobe Acrobat is a product for creating, distributing, and viewing PDF documents. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free application that allows for viewing and printing of PDF documents. Adobe extends the functionality of the PDF specification and their products as new revisions are produced. Most of the Adobe PDF processing applications are shipped with browser plugins to allow for the functionality to be available to HTML programmers. Such plugins are available for all major web browser products such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla FireFox. There exists a double free vulnerability in the Adobe Acrobat Reader Plugin. The vulnerability is caused due to a memory corruption that happens inside the Adobe Acrobat Plugin for Netscape browsers upon processing a URL for a PDF file. A remote unauthenticated attacker may leverage the vulnerability to inject and execute arbitrary code in the security context of currently logged in user. In case of an attack where code injection is unsuccessful, the browser application which uses the affected product might terminate abnormally or become unresponsive. In case of a more sophisticated attack where code injection and execution is successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the currently logged in user. |
