Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) is a web browser application that is capable of rendering both static and dynamic web content. The application is primarily used for tasks related to browsing the web, such as displaying HTML encoded pages, downloading files, etc. Extensions to the basic HTML standard allows ability to dynamically change the document structure at the client side, called DHTML. Normally, a client side scripting language is facilitated in order to allow the developers to control the document dynamically, changing it while being displayed. A memory corruption vulnerability exists in the way Microsoft Internet Explorer handles HTML Objects. The vulnerability is due to attempts to access freed objects in certain situations that pertain to HTML objects. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability by persuading target users to visit a specially crafted Web page. Successful exploitation would corrupt memory and may allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the vulnerable client system, in the context of the logged in user. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in injection and execution of arbitrary code. If code execution is successful, the behaviour of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, Internet Explorer may terminate abnormally.
