Vulnerability Description | Lotus Notes is a client-server collaborative software and email system provided by IBM. The Lotus Notes email client application is capable of communicating with email servers over a range of protocols, such as: SMTP, POP, and IMAP. Multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in IBM Lotus Notes attachment viewer. The vulnerabilities are result of an insufficient boundary checking while processing the Frame Maker Interchange File (MIF) files. A remote attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities by enticing the target user to open a crafted MIF email attachment, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. In case of an attack where code injection is not successful, all instances of the vulnerable IBM Lotus Notes application will terminate. In case of an attack where code injection and execution is not successful, the behavior of the target host is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user. The affected application would also most likely stop functioning as a result of such an attack. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
