Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Publisher is an application that allows users to design, layout, and format documents destined to be published in print, on the web, and various other formats. The main use of the application is in publishing brochures, advertisements, and other documents that require a greater degree of control over the layout of page elements. Some versions of Microsoft Publisher are included with Microsoft Office, while others are installed separately. The file extension used by Microsoft Publisher files is ".pub". There exists a memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Office Publisher. The vulnerability is due to improper handling of user-supplied data without sufficient validation. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a crafted PUB file, potentially causing memory corruption and arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in code execution. If code execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any code injected will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, Publisher will terminate, resulting in the loss of any unsaved data from the current session. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
