Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description There exists a buffer overflow vulnerability in Orbit Downloader. The vulnerability is caused due to insufficient boundary checking when the application processes the URL string. An attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing a target user to open a malicious long URL. Successful exploitation might lead to injection and execution of arbitrary code in the security context of the currently logged in user. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of arbitrary code. If code execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any injected code will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In the case of an unsuccessful code execution attack, Orbit Downloader may terminate abnormally.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Orbit Downloader Download Argument Processing Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
