Vulnerability Description | QuickTime is a media player application developed by Apple. It is capable of playing back numerous multimedia file formats from local file system or network servers. One of the media formats supported by Apple QuickTime is SMIL. There exists a file execution vulnerability in Apple QuickTime application. The vulnerability is due to improper checking of qtnext attribute in SMIL files. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a malicious SMIL file, causing abnormal termination of the application or potentially allowing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the current user. In an attack case where code injection is successful, the behavior of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user.
