Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Microsoft Color Management System. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error in the Microsoft Color Management System (MSCMS) module of the Microsoft Image Color Management (ICM) component. Remote unauthenticated attackers could exploit this vulnerability by persuading users to open a specially crafted image file. Successful exploitation would cause a heap buffer overflow that could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the vulnerable system. An attack targeting this vulnerability can result in the injection and execution of code. If code execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. In an attack case where code execution is unsuccessful, the application that opens the malicious file will terminate abnormally, possibly resulting in the loss of any unsaved data from the current session. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
