Vulnerability Description | Macrovision InstallShield line of products provides solution to software publishers and developers for electronically packaging, distributing, and updating their applications. More specifically, InstallShield is a software tool for creating installers or software packages. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Macrovision InstallShield Update Service ActiveX control. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error while processing calls to a certain method of the ActiveX control. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target user to open a malicious webpage, allowing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the currently logged in user. In case of an attack where code execution is successful, the behavior of the target will depend on the intention of the attacker. Any injected code will be executed within the security context of the currently logged in user. In case of an attack where code execution is unsuccessful, Internet Explorer may terminate abnormally. |
