Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Oracle Database Server is an enterprise-level relational database application suite. To extend the functionality of the Oracle Database Server, extra packages of related program objects, e.g., procedures, functions, variables, constants, cursors, and exceptions, are provided in order to better manage the data. The included stored procedures and functions, or subprograms, are called by name and optionally passed a set of parameters. They are essentially a set of SQL statements that are stored on the server-side, usually as precompiled SQL. Remote database clients can communicate SQL requests to the Oracle database server using TNS. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the Oracle Database Server. The vulnerability is due to an input validation error in the TNS Listener component when handling an invalid TNS data packet. Remote unauthenticated attackers could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted TNS packet. As a result of processing the malicious packet, the server process will terminate resulting in a denial of service condition. |
This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
