Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description	EMC Captiva PixTools is a suite of software developer toolkits that provides image scanning, viewing, and processing functionality. This software application can be integrated into existing applications serving as either a centralized or distributed document capture module. EMC Captiva PixTools runs on several Windows platforms. A vulnerability has been reported in EMC Captiva PixTools Distributed Imaging ActiveX Control, that can allow remote attackers to take control of a vulnerable system by enticing a user to visit a maliciously crafted web page. In a successful attack scenario, where arbitrary code is injected and executed on the vulnerable target host, the behavior of the target system is dependent on the malicious code. Note that any code executed by the attacker runs with the privileges of the logged in user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the EMC Captiva PixTools Distributed Imaging ActiveX crafted web page protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name: Web Client Enforcement Violation.
