Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Google Apps is a set of web-based tools hosted by Google under the software-as-a-service model. It features several Web applications with similar functionality to popular office suites, including: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chrome, Talk, Docs and Sites. When using Google Apps, the data and application themselves are served from Google's data centres. An argument injection vulnerability exists in Google Apps that can allow execution of arbitrary programs on a vulnerable system. The vulnerability is due to an input validation error while parsing a malicious URI. Successful exploitation would result in execution of arbitrary programs on the vulnerable system with the privileges of the logged in user.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Google Apps googleapps.url.mailto URI Argument Injection protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
