Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Windows Media Services is an industrial-strength platform for streaming live or on-demand audio and video content over the Internet or an intranet. A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows Media Services. This vulnerability is due to the way Windows Media Services handles transport info network packets. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted transport info packet to a computer running the affected Windows Media Services. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the target system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Media Services Stack-based Buffer Overflow (MS10-025) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
