Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Word is a popular word processing software. A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Word. The vulnerability is due to insufficient data validation by Microsoft Office Word when handling rich text data. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Rich Text Format (.rtf) file in Word. Successful exploitation of this issue may corrupt system memory allowing execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Word RTF files over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
