Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The SMB Protocol is a network file sharing protocol that is implemented in Microsoft Windows. A denial of service vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Windows Server Message Block (SMB) implementation. The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation by the Microsoft SMB Protocol software of specially crafted compounded requests. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw by constructing a specially crafted SMB packet and sending it to a target server. Successful exploitation could cause a denial of service condition on the affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed SMB compounded requests attempting to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft SMB Stack Exhaustion Denial of Service (MS10-054) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
