Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Word is a popular word processing software. A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Word. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Word that fails to properly parse specially crafted Word files. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a specially crafted Word file that contains an index value. Successful exploitation of this issue may corrupt system memory, allowing execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Word files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Word Index Value Parsing Memory Corruption (MS10-079) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
