Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | Microsoft Excel is a popular spreadsheet application. A memory corruption vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Excel. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Office Excel that fails to properly parse specially crafted Excel files. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw by convincing a victim to open a malicious Office file. Successful exploitation of this issue may corrupt system memory, allowing execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Excel files over HTTP.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
