Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Apple QuickTime is a media player application that is capable of playing back numerous multimedia file formats from local file system or network servers. A memory corruption vulnerability has been reported in Apple QuickTime. A remote attacker could exploit this issue via a malformed FPX file. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a target system. The vulnerability is due to an error in the QuickTime plugin available for different browsers. A remote attacker could exploit this issue by enticing target users to open a crafted FPX file with an invalid value. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed FPX files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Apple QuickTime FPX Subimage Remote Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
