Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description IBM Cognos Express is an integrated business intelligence (BI) and planning solution developed for midsized companies. It provides reporting, analysis, dashboard, scorecard, planning, budgeting and forecasting capabilities. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in IBM Cognos Express. The vulnerability is due to hard-coded user credentials, with manager-level permissions, installed by default in the user configuration of the bundled Tomcat server. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by using these credentials to connect to the vulnerable server over port 19300/TCP and deploy a malicious web application on a vulnerable system. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM Cognos Server Backdoor Account Remote Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
