Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP Data Protector Media Operations provides tracking and management of storage media facilitating backup processes as well as faster data recovery. A denial of service vulnerability has been reported in HP Data Protector Media Operations. The flaw is due to a null pointer dereference error in DBServer.exe when parsing malformed requests sent to a target server. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a maliciously crafted request to the target server over TCP. Successful exploitation will cause the target service to terminate abnormally resulting in a denial of service condition.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP Data Protector Media Operations Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
