Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description MySQL is a popular open-source implementation of a relational database that supports the Structured Query Language (SQL) for querying and updating stored data. A denial of service vulnerability exists in Oracle MySQL database server. The vulnerability is due to an error while handling joins involving a table with a unique SET column. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending malicious command packets to the server that causes a join with aforementioned condition. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would cause the target server to terminate, denying service to all users until the server is restarted.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Oracle MySQL Database Unique SET Column Join Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  MySQL Protection Violation.
Attack Information:  Oracle MySQL Database unique set column join denial of service
