Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Adobe Reader and Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's core technology, the Portable Document Format (PDF), a format that has become the de facto standard in the electronic document exchange. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way Adobe Reader and Acrobat handle the loading of DLL files. The vulnerability is caused by the Acrobat Reader that uses the Windows DLL load order to attempt to load a DLL named d3dref9.dll when displaying certain PDF files. When opening Acrobat Reader through a local PDF file, the directory of the PDF file becomes the application's current directory for loading d3dref9.dll. Therefore, Adobe Reader could potentially load an attacker's DLL file and execute any code it contained. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system.
