Who is Vulnerable? | |
Vulnerability Description | The Remote Desktop feature in Windows enables access to all of the programs, resources, and accessories on a user's computer from another Windows-based computer. Once connected, Remote Desktop gives mouse and keyboard control over the computer while showing everything that is happening on the screen. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way that the Windows Remote Desktop Client handles the loading of DLL files. The vulnerability is caused when the Windows Remote Desktop Client incorrectly restricts the path used for loading external libraries. An attacker could convince a user to open a legitimate Remote Desktop configuration file (.rdp) that is located in the same network directory as a specially crafted dynamic link library (DLL) file. Then, while opening the .rdp file, Windows Remote Desktop Client could attempt to load the DLL file and execute any code it contained. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to take complete control of an affected system. |
This protection will detect and block the transferring of suspicious DLL files over CIFS and WebDav.
